Sugar consumption is predicted to surge in the coming years. According to figures, global consumption is set to reach 453 million kilograms by 2026, up 1.6% annually from 410 million kilograms in 2020. This marks a 6.3% year-on-year increase. France, Italy and Poland took the second, third and fourth spots respectively in the ranking. Lithuanian sugar production is also on the rise. By 2026, the country is expected to produce 154,000 metric tons of sugar, a 0.7% yearly increase from its 2021 level of 148,000 metric tons. Since 1997, Lithuanian production has risen 0.4% annually. It came in 62nd place in 2021, overtaken by Fiji's 148,400 metric tons. Brazil, Thailand and China took the second, third and fourth positions in the rankings, respectively.
