This is a 2.6% increase on the 15.7 million metric tons produced in 2021, and an 11.1% increase on the 16.5 million metric tons produced in 1966. Brazil is currently the world's largest producer, with 15.7 million metric tons in 2021, followed by Thailand, China and India.
