Container traffic volume in Japan is set to increase slightly in the coming years. In 2021, the country was ranked 6th with 22 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs). This is expected to grow to 24 million TEUs by 2026, representing an average annual growth rate of 0.9%. Since 2005, Japan's container demand has increased by an average of 1.6% each year. Malaysia was in the lead in 2021, with the US, Singapore and South Korea making up the top four.
