However, the German market has seen a marginal yearly decline of 0.1% since 2005. In 2023, Spain surpassed Germany, leading with 15.1 million TEUs. Germany, the Netherlands, and Belgium followed in the second, third, and fourth spots respectively. Moreover, German container handling at ports is also set to reach 5.24 million TEUs by 2028, up from 5.06 million TEUs in 2023, with an annual growth rate of 0.5%. Despite this growth forecast, the German market has declined by 1.4% annually since 2010. In 2023, Spain led the ranking with 5.06 million TEUs, with Germany, the Netherlands, and Belgium occupying the second, third, and fourth positions respectively.
