This marks an average annual growth rate of 2.1%. Since 2005, the demand in the Netherlands has increased by 2.4% each year. In 2023, the Netherlands ranked 10th in global container traffic. Spain surpassed the Netherlands with the same volume of around 17 million TEUs. Slovenia, the United States, and Singapore occupied the second, third, and fourth positions, respectively, in the same ranking. Meanwhile, Dutch container handling at ports is expected to reach around 16.4 million TEUs by 2028, rising from 14.6 million TEUs in 2023. This represents a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 1.8%. From 2002 onwards, the Dutch market has experienced an annual growth rate of 1.1%. In 2023, the Netherlands was ranked third in container handling at ports. Germany led with 14.6 million TEUs, followed by Germany, the Netherlands, and Belgium in second, third, and fourth places, respectively.
