Iran's container traffic volume is projected to decline sharply in the coming years. By 2028, the volume is expected to drop to roughly 603,000 Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units (TEUs) from about 1.24 million TEUs in 2023. This represents an annual average decrease of 11.5%. The decline in container traffic is part of a longer-term trend. Since 2007, Iran's demand for container traffic has been falling at an average rate of 12.1% per year. As of 2023, Iran ranked 60th globally in container traffic volume. In 2023, Myanmar surpassed Iran with a container traffic volume of approximately 1.24 million TEUs. The top three countries in this ranking were Slovenia, the United States, and Singapore, respectively.
