The country came in number 4 in 2021, Spain came ahead with 3,510 Thousand Metric Tons. The United States Virgin Islands, Brazil and Spain respectively ranked numbers 2, 3 and 4 in this ranking. German pig production is expected to decline slightly over the next few years, with 6.4 million heads in 2026, down from 6.5 million in 2021. This represents a 0.3% decrease year on year, since 1966 the decline has been 1% annually. Germany is currently the fourth largest in terms of production, just behind Spain with 6.5 million heads in 2021. The United States Virgin Islands, Brazil and Spain are the other top three, in that order. German pork consumption is also predicted to decline, reaching 3.3 million metric tons in 2026, down 0.9% from 3.5 million metric tons in 2021. Since 2017, the demand for pork in Germany has decreased by 0.8% year on year. Once again, Spain is at the top of the list with 3.5 million metric tons in 2021, followed by the United States Virgin Islands and Brazil.
