European Apparel Trends in 2022

European apparel sales are forecast to reach around €75 billion by 2026, a slight decrease of 0.1% annually since 2021. Since 2016, the European market has grown by 0.4% a year. Italy was the biggest contributor in 2021, with sales of €29 billion, followed by Germany, France and Spain. Malta saw the biggest year-on-year growth, at 14.1%, while the UK saw the largest decline of 11.6% since 2016. European clothing expenditure is expected to reach €322 billion by 2026, with an average year-on-year decline of 0.1% since 2021. Since 2016, the European market has dropped 1.4% a year. The UK was the biggest spender in 2021, at €71 billion, followed by Germany, Italy and France. Romania had the highest year-on-year growth at 21.2%, while Spain had the largest decrease since 2016 of 5.5%.
