Canadian fish production is projected to reach approximately 210,000 metric tons by 2028, up from around 197,000 metric tons in 2023. This marks an annual growth rate of 1.1%. Historical data shows that since 1965, Canada’s fish supply has increased at a rate of 0.6% per year. In 2023, Canada ranked 25th in global fish production, with Colombia slightly ahead, also producing around 197,000 metric tons. Leading the global rankings were Indonesia, India, and Bangladesh, occupying the second, third, and fourth positions, respectively. On the consumption side, Canadian fish consumption is expected to decline to roughly 103,000 metric tons by 2028, down from about 118,000 metric tons in 2023. This represents an average annual decrease of 2.1%. Since 2019, the demand for fish in Canada has been decreasing at a rate of 1.7% per year.
