In the global rankings for 2023, Mexico held the 21st position, with Spain surpassing it by producing roughly 267,000 metric tons. Leading the list were Indonesia, India, and Bangladesh, occupying the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th positions respectively. **Decline in Mexican Fish Consumption Expected** In contrast to production, Mexican fish consumption is projected to decline. By 2028, consumption is expected to drop to around 375,000 metric tons from about 449,000 metric tons in 2023. This marks an average annual decrease of 2.8%. Since 2019, Mexican demand for fish has been on a downward trend, decreasing at an average rate of 2.6% per year.
