In 2023, India ranked third globally in fish production, with Indonesia slightly ahead, also producing around 10.9 million metric tons. Following Indonesia and India, Bangladesh held the fourth position. Conversely, Indian fish consumption is expected to decline to roughly 412,000 metric tons by 2028, down from approximately 558,000 metric tons in 2023. This represents an average annual decrease of 4.8%. The trend of declining demand has been consistent since 2019, with an annual reduction rate of 4.8%.
