Burmese fish production is projected to decline significantly over the next five years, dropping from approximately 831,000 metric tons in 2023 to around 421,000 metric tons by 2028. This marks an annual average decrease of 10.9%. Historically, since 1965, Burmese fish supply has decreased by 6% year on year. In 2023, Burma ranked 13th globally in fish production, with Japan surpassing it at the same production level of 831,000 metric tons. Leading the global ranking were Indonesia, India, and Bangladesh, occupying the second, third, and fourth positions respectively. Fish consumption in Burma is also on a downward trend. By 2028, it is expected to reach roughly 12,000 metric tons, down from 13,000 metric tons in 2023. This represents an average annual decline of 1.6%. Since 2019, Burmese fish demand has decreased by 1.8% year on year.
