Malagasy imports of shrimp are projected to drop 18.8% by 2026, from 21,000 kilograms in 2021 to 7,000 kilograms. The country’s demand for shrimp has grown 204.7% since 2000. In 2021, Malagasy ranked 107th in terms of imports, with Uganda taking the lead at 21,000 kilograms. China, Spain and Japan took second, third and fourth place respectively. Malagasy exports of shrimp are predicted to dip 0.3% by 2026, from 7.8 million kilograms in 2021 to 7.6 million kilograms. Since 1995, the country’s supply of shrimp has declined by 1.6%. In 2021, Malagasy placed 28th in terms of exports, with Guyana edging ahead at 7.8 million kilograms. Ecuador, Argentina and Indonesia took second, third and fourth place respectively.
