Portugal is set to become the 26th largest shrimp exporter in the world by 2026, according to the latest census. In 2021, the country exported about 9.4 million kilograms of shrimp, registering an average year-on-year growth rate of 1.3%. Since 1993, Portuguese supply has grown at an average annual rate of 5.5%. Germany was the top exporter in 2021, followed by Ecuador, Argentina and Indonesia. Similarly, Portugal is expected to be the world's 14th largest shrimp importer in 2026. In 2021, the country imported nearly 30 million kilograms of shrimp, with a year-on-year growth rate of 1.3%. Since 1993, Portuguese demand has risen by an average of 3.7% each year. Belgium was the top importer in 2021, followed by China, Spain and Japan.
