Malaysia's shrimp exports are forecast to drop by 5.8% in 2026, according to a recent report. The supply of shrimp in the country has been steadily declining since 1994, with an average decrease of 0.5% per year. In 2021, Malaysia was ranked 19th in global shrimp export, with 20.4 million kilograms. Belgium was the leader, with Ecuador, Argentina, and Indonesia in second, third, and fourth place respectively. Meanwhile, Malaysian shrimp imports are projected to dip by 4.8% in 2026. There has been a 0.4% decrease in demand since 1994. In 2021, Sweden was the top importer, with 12 million kilograms, while Malaysia was 22nd in the ranking. China, Spain, and Japan were second, third, and fourth respectively.
