Thailand is set to become one of the largest shrimp importers by 2026. The country is projected to import 15.7 million kilograms of shrimp that year, a 1.2% increase per year on average since 1993. In 2021, Thailand came in at 17th place with 14.6 million kilograms, behind Iceland at the top of the list. China, Spain and Japan were ranked second, third and fourth, respectively. Meanwhile, Thailand is projected to export 37.5 million kilograms of shrimp by 2026, an 8.5% decrease per year on average since 1994. In 2021, Honduras was at the top of the list with 62.4 million kilograms, and Thailand ranked 7th with that figure. Ecuador, Argentina and Indonesia respectively came in at second, third and fourth place.
