Forecast: Sugar Cane Demand in Ghana

From 2014 to 2023, the demand for sugar cane in Ghana saw a fluctuating trend. The demand in 2023 was 154 thousand metric tons, which remained steady from 2021. The remarkable dip in 2020 by 5% marks an anomaly, possibly due to external factors such as pandemic disruptions. However, a recovery occurred the following year with a 5.95% increase in 2021.

From 2024 onwards, demand is forecasted to grow modestly, achieving a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 0.15% over the next five years. By 2028, the sugar cane demand is expected to rise to 155.55 thousand metric tons, showing a cumulative growth rate of 0.74% from 2023 levels.

Future trends to watch for include potential impacts of climate change on agricultural yield, government policy changes regarding agricultural subsidies, and shifts in the global sugar market that could affect both supply and demand dynamics in Ghana.
