Malagasy tobacco production is projected to decline sharply, reaching approximately 240 metric tons by 2028. This marks a significant drop from the 581 metric tons recorded in 2023, translating to an average annual decrease of 14%. The decline is part of a longer-term trend observed since 1966, during which Malagasy tobacco supply has been falling by an average of 8.2% each year. In the global ranking for 2023, Madagascar was positioned at number 80. Armenia narrowly edged out Madagascar with a production figure also at 581 metric tons. Leading the rankings were India, Brazil, and Zimbabwe, holding the second, third, and fourth positions respectively.
