By 2028, the country's tobacco output is expected to drop to roughly 2,800 metric tons, down from about 7,100 metric tons in 2023. This represents an annual decline rate of nearly 15%. Historically, Colombia's tobacco supply has been dwindling, with an average annual decrease of approximately 8% since 1966. As of 2023, Colombia ranked 43rd in global tobacco production, having been surpassed by Serbia, which produced the same amount, about 7,100 metric tons. On the global stage, India, Brazil, and Zimbabwe hold the second, third, and fourth spots respectively in tobacco production, underscoring their significant roles in the industry.
