Mexico is projected to see a decline in daily smoking rates among individuals aged 15 and older. By 2028, the proportion of daily smokers is expected to drop to 7.4%, down from 8.3% in 2023. This marks an average annual decrease of 1.8 percentage points. Despite this downward trend, Mexican demand for tobacco had previously seen an increase, rising by 1.5 percentage points annually since 2006. On the production side, Mexico's tobacco output is forecasted to fall slightly. By 2028, production is anticipated to reach approximately 15,350 metric tons, a decrease from 15,960 metric tons in 2023. This represents an average annual decline of 0.6%. Historically, since 1966, the country has experienced a yearly growth rate of 1% in tobacco supply. In 2023, Mexico was ranked 31st globally in tobacco production, with Algeria surpassing it by producing 15,960 metric tons. Leading the global rankings were India, Brazil, and Zimbabwe, holding the second, third, and fourth positions, respectively.
