Romania's tobacco production has seen a significant decline in 2023, plummeting to approximately 100 metric tons. This marks a sharp 70% decrease from the previous year, when production stood at 340 metric tons. The trend of declining tobacco production in Romania isn't new. Since 1966, the nation's supply has decreased by nearly 40% on an annual basis. This year, Romania finds itself ranked 100th in global tobacco production. The Solomon Islands edged out Romania, also producing around 100 metric tons of tobacco. Leading the global rankings are India, Brazil, and Zimbabwe, holding the second, third, and fourth positions respectively.
