Cheese consumption is expected to hit almost 2.7 billion kilograms by 2026, up 0.6% year-on-year from 2020, driven by a 1.6% annual rise in demand. France, the UK and Germany were the top three cheese consuming countries in 2020. In Italy, cheese production is forecast to reach 1.12 million metric tons by 2026, down 0.2% year-on-year from 2021. Since 1966, Italian supply has increased by an average of 0.6% annually. France overtook Italy in 2021, putting it in fourth place, while Germany, France and Italy ranked second, third and fourth respectively.
