France, the United Kingdom, and Germany held the second, third, and fourth spots in the ranking respectively. French cheese production is also expected to decline slightly by 2026, to around 1.6 million metric tons. This year on year decrease of 0.4% is due to a minimal increase of 0.1% since 1966. In 2021, Germany overtook France to take the second spot in the ranking, followed by France in third, and Italy in fourth.
