French butter consumption is on the rise, according to new figures. By 2026, the nation is expected to consume 507,000 metric tons of butter, a 0.6% increase from the 488,000 metric tons consumed in 2021. This rate of growth has been steadily increasing since 2017, when demand rose by 1%. France currently ranks third in the world when it comes to butter consumption, after Germany and Russia. Butter production in France is set to decline, however. By 2026, the nation is expected to produce 301,910 metric tons of butter, a 1.3% drop from the 326,490 metric tons produced in 2021. This rate of decline has been consistent since 1966, when supply decreased by 2.2%. Germany currently ranks first in the world when it comes to butter production, with France and New Zealand coming in at third and fourth place respectively.
