Key Ambulatory Care Indicators
Number of outpatient facilities, usually measured per 100 000 inhabitants.
Percentage of individuals in a given population reporting receiving health services provided on an outpatient basis. Outpatient designates a patient who is receiving ambulatory care at a hospital or other facility without being admitted to the facility. While many inpatients may be ambulatory, the term ambulatory care usually implies the patient travels to a location to receive services and no overnight stay in hospital is required. Many surgeries and treatments are now provided on an outpatient basis, while previously they were considered reason for inpatient hospitalization. Based on: World Health Organization.
